What does Unum’s Dual Benefit provide?

Dual Benefit enables employers to protect their business, their employees and their dependants should they be unable to work due to long-term illness or injury. It offers financial assistance for both employer and employee in the event of long- term sickness absence.

The policy aims to give employees a better chance of making a full recovery and returning to work. In the event of long-term illness or injury, the policy provides:

  • A monthly replacement income for the employee for up to five years.
  • Access for the employee to Unum's specialist vocational rehabilitation experts
  • Additional monthly finance to help the business cope with the loss of an employee, e.g. for recruiting temporary replacement staff as long as the employee remains in service
  • A lump sum payment for the employee at the end of the benefit payment period if they continue to be incapacitated from one of the 18 serious illness conditions listed in the policy.

The cover pays employers a percentage of the absent employee's earnings. Cover can start when the employer's short-term sick pay provision ends and can continue for the agreed duration of the contract.

As an integral part of the package, our dedicated Medical Services and unique in-house  vocational rehabilitation teams aim to assist in a safe and sustainable return to work whenever possible.
