Unum consultant awarded Case Manager of the Year at Rehabilitation First Awards 2009

2nd July 2009

Scott Jardine, a Vocational Rehabilitation Consultant at Unum, one of the UK’s leading group risk insurers, has been awarded ‘Case Manager of the Year’ at the 2009 Rehabilitation First Awards, held at London Zoo.

Scott was awarded Case Manager of the Year in recognition of his exemplary work in vocational rehabilitation, and in particular, his efforts with one of Unum’s clients that resulted in improved absence management and a reduced sickness absence rate.

Lynn Rouse, deputy editor of Post magazine and chair of the judging panel, said: “Scott’s achievements in driving through reduced sickness absence rates for major clients, facilitated by his excellent communication, negotiation and motivational skills, put him ahead of the pack. This, combined with the fact he never shies away from the tough conversations and his development of innovative new tools to help individuals help themselves, made him a winner in the eyes of the judges.”

After the win Scott said: "To receive this award is a great honour, especially given the competition and the ever increasing quality of vocational rehabilitation services throughout Britain, of which Unum is a pioneer. Winning this award is very much a joint effort and testament to the effective relationship between Unum and the adviser and employer who were involved in this particular case."

Vocational rehabilitation is part of Unum’s income protection product, available via intermediaries, and plays a crucial part in getting an ill or injured employee back to work in a safe and sustainable way. Unum’s rehabilitation case managers help employers actively manage sickness absence issues and can help employers improve their bottom line by working with them to minimise long-term sickness absence rates.

The Rehabilitation First Awards 2009 is part of Post Magazine’s Rehabilitation First Campaign. It has been highlighting the pioneering efforts of all those people and businesses (from employers to insurers, practitioners to claimant solicitors) that have been promoting the take up of rehabilitation at these awards for five years. Unum was also highly commended for its toolkit, ‘Rehab Choices’ in the Rehabilitation Initiative of the Year category.
