Teams of employees from Unum, one of the UK’s leading income protection insurers, are aiming to raise £15,000 for eye care charity SeeAbility with their Site2Sight Challenge this week.
Around 200 intrepid Unum employees will take part in this three day run/walk challenge that takes in a route spanning Unum’s Bristol, Basingstoke and Dorking offices – covering a total of 158 miles.
Epsom-based SeeAbility, formerly The Royal School for the Blind, provides a wide range of pioneering services for people with a visual impairment and additional disabilities. All funds raised by the Site2Sight Challenge will go towards SeeAbility’s Just 4 You Fund that enables SeeAbility service users to choose specific items which will enhance their quality of life, such as their own laptop so that they can download music and stories or keep a personal diary. In addition, the Just 4 You Fund will be sponsoring a blind football team so that they can attend matches around the UK.
The Site2Sight Challenge will set off from Unum’s Bristol office on Wednesday September 9th with teams finishing at Pewsey that day. In the second leg Unum’s Basingstoke teams travel from Pewsey to Alton and on Friday 11th Dorking teams will complete the final section of the challenge from Alton to Dorking.
Susan Ring, Unum CEO commented, “I am very proud of our dynamic team at Unum. Volunteering within our local community and fundraising plays an important role in our organisation. We are pleased to be able to create more opportunities for people with disabilities and we are delighted to be helping SeeAbility’s Just 4 You Fund.”
Over the past 3 years, Unum has raised over £120,000 for SeeAbility through a range of innovative fundraising initiatives including Le Jo’G which was a sponsored relay run from John O’Groats to Land’s End.
Jayne McGann, Fundraising and Marketing Director said “We would like to thank everyone who will be taking part in the Site2Sight Challenge. The proceeds will be going directly to our Just 4 You fund which builds on SeeAbility’s commitment to giving our service users the choice and opportunity they deserve.
We are enormously grateful to Unum for their continued support.”
