Unum showcases Workmatters offering at party conferences

26th September 2008

Unum, the UK’s leading disability insurer,  this week has been exhibiting its WorkMatters offering at the Labour Party conference in Manchester at Manchester Central (formerly know as GMEX/MICC). The stand will also be present at the Conservative Party conference in Birmingham next week.

WorkMatters, launched in early 2007, is a range of insurance-related services from the Unum group of companies covering both the assessment and occupational rehabilitation training programmes.

One in five of the working population are at risk of not being able to work due to long-term illness1. An absence management assessment programme can help identify areas of risk in the workplace and ensure that a programme is in place to manage effective health and safety and aid an employee’s return to work, where appropriate.

Peter Barnett, Head of External Affairs at Unum, said:

We hope to demonstrate to MPs and delegates the benefits that effective sickness absence management can bring to a company in terms of employee welfare and productivity.  Unum’s vast experience in this area has shown that early intervention is key to effective rehabilitation of employees on long-term sickness absence leave; and in many cases preventing a long-term absence occurring in the first place. The interactive nature of the stand means that delegates at the conferences are experiencing the benefits first hand.
