Unum removes last standard exclusion from individual income protection range

20th February 2008

  • Unum offers income protection with NO standard exclusions
  • Plus, cover can be arranged without unnecessary delays, because Unum is the only provider with no standard exclusions which doesn’t impose standard medical underwriting limits.

Unum, the specialist income protection provider, is now able to offer cover with no standard exclusions. This follows a decision to withdraw its previous standard exclusion for some AIDS and HIV related claims on all new income protection applications received after 15th February.

The improvement will apply to all four products from the provider’s individual Income Protection range. This includes Unum’s Primary Income Replacement Plan, Executive Income Replacement Plan, Essential Ability Cover…and their flagship Personal Income Replacement Plan which has been five star rated by independent research company Defaqto in 2008 for product features and benefits.

Unum believes that removing standard exclusions reinforces the peace of mind that their IP range can offer. Plus, advisers have the benefit of not having to explain the potential impact of a plan’s exclusions to their clients.

Linton Penman, Head of Retail Marketing at Unum, comments:

Unum may not be alone in dispensing with standard exclusions. But thanks to our innovative new underwriting approach, Unum is the only company to do this, while not imposing set limits for automatically requesting any form of additional medical evidence.

He adds:

That adds up to no unnecessary delays in getting an underwriting  decision, and the benefit of cover which is uncompromised by standard exclusions.

Advisers who require further information about Unum’s individual income protection range, and details of the provider’s underwriting approach should contact the provider’s Adviser hotline on: 0800 783 3282.
