Leading UK disability insurer, UnumProvident, has sponsored the publication of the latest version of the Disability Alliance's 'Moving into Work' guide. The book provides vital information on the benefits, tax credits and other forms of help available to disabled people considering work or self-employment.
Peter Barnett, Head of External Affairs at UnumProvident, commented:
At UnumProvident we feel that it's vitally important that disabled people are not further disadvantaged in their efforts to find work simply through not having access to the information they need to guide them. This guide provides accurate, basic information about the work options and support available, so that people can get the most out of government schemes and avoid some of the most common pitfalls.
Vanessa Stanislas, Chief Executive at the Disability Alliance, said:
For many disabled people, the decision about whether to move into work or not is particularly hard. The path into work is difficult as they need to both find a job that they can do and be confident that they won't lose out financially.
New government policies and strategies, such as Pathways to Work, and the extension of work-focused interviews to most claimants of working age mean that an up-to-date route map is needed if they are to follow this path successfully. We are extremely grateful to UnumProvident for making the publication of this new version of the guide possible.
The guide was launched yesterday alongside the Disability Alliance's Disability Rights handbook, which provides a one-stop, up-to-date guide to the latest developments in the world of social security and related benefits. The event was held at Toynbee Hall in the East of London.
