UnumProvident welcomes Government Report on improving the lives of disabled people.
The Government's radical strategy for transforming the life chances of disabled people has received a warm welcome from UnumProvident, the UK's leading disability insurer. In a letter sent to the Prime Minister, UnumProvident has applauded the Government's new report on Disability Strategy, entitled 'Improving the Life Chances of Disabled People'.
UnumProvident is particularly positive about the Government's new focus on employment for the disabled. UnumProvident is itself continuously working to promote better ways in which disabled people can be helped to seek employment and to gain a sustainable role in the workforce, as part of a healthy
lifestyle.
The letter's author, Joanne Hindle, Corporate Services Director at UnumProvident, said:
We are also extremely pleased about the Government's commitment to establishing an Office for Disability Issues.
In 2001, we founded the New Beginnings initiative, a partnership of employers and disability organisations, which, in response to the Draft Disability Bill, proposed the establishment of a single minister with responsibility for disabled people's issues across all Government departments and delivery mechanisms.
The next New Beginnings symposium will be held on 15 March 2005 in London and Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, Alan Johnson MP, has already agreed to speak at the event.
