16th December 2005
UnumProvident employees have donated a total of 824 days of work-time to good causes so far in 2005, with more activities still to come during December.
The UK's leading disability insurer encourages each of its employees to spend up to two days a year performing voluntary work for the local community and this year had already smashed through its 2005 target of 750 days back in October.
Communities that have benefited include those near UnumProvident's three main sites, Dorking, Bristol and Basingstoke, as well as those in the areas surrounding its regional offices in Manchester, Glasgow, Leeds and Birmingham.
So far this year, 85 organisations have been supported and the projects have been as diverse as ever, including the 1,000 mile Le Jo'G charity race from Lands End to John O'Groats and the building of bike sheds at Dorking Ashcombe School. Other activities ranged from painting and decorating and conservation challenges to becoming involved as trustees or acting as school governors.
During December employees will be continuing their good work, raising funds for the Children's Trust in Surrey. This will include dedicating two days to collecting money for the cause at the Harrods store in London.
Inderpal Sokhy, Community Affairs Co-ordinator at UnumProvident, said:
This has been an excellent year and it is extremely encouraging to see our employees become ever more dedicated and enthusiastic about giving something back to their local community.
