Dorking-based UnumProvident, the UK’s leading disability insurer, has announced that employee Debbie Bravery has been awarded the Cares Volunteer of the Year Award for the South East of England.
Cares is the campaigning arm of Business in the Community (BitC), a UK body of 700 member companies, which supports businesses in continually improving their positive impact on society.
Debbie was nominated for the award by Peter Moxley, the manager of Cares in Surrey, for her outstanding commitment to raising funds for the UK charity SeeAbility over the past three years.
Debbie’s contributions have included volunteering to do painting and decorating work at SeeAbility, rasing £2,500 by running the London Marathon and organising a skydive to raise over £3,500.
Inderpal Sokhy, Community Affairs Co-ordinator at UnumProvident, said:
This is a fantastic achievement for Debbie and we are all very proud of her. At UnumProvident we encourage our employees to take an active role in local charity and volunteering work and see this as a great example of how it can reap benefits for both the employee in terms of stretching and extending their boundaries and the local community.
